Macon-Bibb County GCAPS Accepting Applications for High School Students for 2024-2025
Macon-Bibb County’s Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS) is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year. The program offers an immersive experience to teach high school students about government operations at the community and state levels.
Participants will attend monthly sessions featuring trips, meetings with local and state leaders, and professional development activities. Applications are open to all 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students in Macon-Bibb County, regardless of their school. The application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on September 20, 2024.
To apply, students must complete an application form, answer questions about their school and personal experiences, and participate in an interview with a program leader.
Dr. Henry Ficklin, Executive Director of Community Affairs, highlighted the benefits of the program, noting that it includes field trips and a visit to the State Capitol to learn about the Georgia General Assembly. Many past participants have pursued careers in government after college.
