Staff Members Charged After Lockdown at Edwards Middle School Due to Suspicious Behavior

On Wednesday, September 11, Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office responded to concerns about a suspicious person at Edwards Middle School in Conyers, GA. The Sheriff’s Office assured the public that there was no active threat and that the situation was under investigation.

During an unannounced random security check at Edwards Middle School, Rockdale County Deputies observed suspicious behavior involving a staff member and a contracted staff member. In response, the school was placed on lockdown to protect students and ensure their safety.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that Paul Schwartz, a staff member at the school, was in possession of two razor blade knives. Schwartz has been charged with two counts of bringing a weapon on school grounds. Additionally, Paul Schwartz Jr., a contracted staff member, was charged with making terroristic threats.

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office stated, “We are taking all necessary steps to ensure the well-being of the students.”
