Abandoned Vehicle Linked to Dekalb County Homicide Found Near Young Harris College, Murder Suspect at Large

UPDATE: Freeman was taken into custody at approximately 10:13 AM on Wednesday, September 11th.

On Tuesday, September 10th, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Towns County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an abandoned vehicle in a wooded area at 4545 Thomas Town Road, near the Young Harris College campus. The vehicle was connected to a homicide investigation in Dekalb County, Georgia.

The vehicle was found unoccupied, and investigators determined it was abandoned between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Authorities have identified the murder suspect as 17-year-old Anthony Freeman, a black male standing about 5’3” and weighing 130 pounds with long dreadlocks. Freeman is wanted for murder and theft of the vehicle.

Freeman is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities advise that anyone who comes into contact with him should use extreme caution and immediately call 911.

The Towns County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with Young Harris College Police, has increased patrols in the Young Harris area in response to the situation.
