Newton County 12-Year-Old Student Arrested for Threats to Clements Middle School

On September 6, 2024, Newton County deputies arrested a 12-year-old male student from Clements Middle School in Covington, GA for making in-person threats towards students and staff. The student faces charges of terroristic threats and acts and has been taken to the Juvenile Court System.

Sheriff Ezell Brown emphasized that threats or acts of violence will not be tolerated and urged both students and parents to be aware of the consequences. “Let us take time and encourage our youth not to make threats and not to get themselves entangled with the law. Entanglement with the law can and will follow you throughout your adult life. I urge you please refrain from Facebook and focus on your textbook,” Sheriff Brown said.

The Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Newton County School System (NCSS), is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Newton County schools and the community. The Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to report any suspicious behavior or concerns immediately, following the principle: See something, say something.
