69-Year-OId Towns County Man Arrested in Major Drug Bust
On Monday, August 12, Towns County Deputies responded to a call for service at a residence on Hwy 66 in Young Harris concerning a possible intruder. Upon arrival, deputies detected the odor of marijuana and observed drugs in plain view.
Towns County drug investigators were summoned to the scene, which led to the development of probable cause and a subsequent search of the residence. During the search, authorities confiscated an amount of marijuana and methamphetamine, both of which field-tested positive.
Following a two-week narcotics investigation, David Lee Thomas, age 69, of Young Harris, was arrested on August 27. Thomas faces several charges, including:
- Felony Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute
- Felony Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
- Felony Possession of Methamphetamine
- Felony Possession of Marijuana
Sheriff Ken Henderson described the operation as a significant drug bust and affirmed the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to combating drug-related crime. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
