Suspect Fled After Being Discovered by Homeowner in Athens, Found Hiding in Vehicle Hours Later

On August 27th, at approximately 5:45 PM, Athens-Clarke County Police were dispatched to a residence on Lavender Rd in response to a burglary in progress. The suspect fled upon being discovered by the homeowner. Officers from both day and night shifts conducted an extensive search of the area, utilizing K9 units and drone support.

Despite their efforts, the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Raleigh Mitchell of Athens, GA, managed to evade capture temporarily. He was found hiding in a vehicle on Woodside Drive nearly three hours later.

Mitchell has been charged with Burglary and Loitering/Prowling and has been transported to Clarke County Jail.
