Three Suspects Arrested in Connection with July Murder of Newton County Teen

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) has arrested three suspects in connection with the July 21st murder of 18-year-old Damenica Roddy. Following a thorough investigation by the NCSO Criminal Investigations Division (CID), two suspects were taken into custody on August 21, 2024, while a third was apprehended on August 23, 2024.

The suspects have been identified as Tirell Tommie, 19, of Covington, who was arrested on August 21, 2024; Israel Richardson, 19, of Covington, also arrested on August 21, 2024; and Savion Walker, 19, of Covington, who was taken into custody on August 23, 2024. Each suspect faces charges of murder, three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm, and making false statements or writings. They are currently being held at the Newton County Detention Center.

Sheriff Ezell Brown praised Investigator Kurt Collins, the lead investigator on the case, and the NCSO Crime Analyst Unit for their dedication and commitment to both the Roddy family and the Newton County community. Sheriff Brown also expressed gratitude to U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for their assistance in apprehending Savion Walker upon his return to the United States.

“These arrests reflect our continued commitment to justice and the safety of our community,” said Sheriff Brown. “Our thoughts remain with the Roddy family during this difficult time. We hope these arrests provide some sense of closure as they begin the healing process. We stand with them, and we will continue to support them during this time.”
