Suspect Found Dead After Barricading Himself at Conyers Hotel; No Deputies Injured During Standoff

On Wednesday, August 21st, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. team was called to assist the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the U.S. Marshals in executing a Felony Murder Warrant for a suspect wanted in connection with a murder case from Crawford County. The suspect had barricaded himself inside a building at the Horizon Extended Stay hotel in Conyers.

During the standoff, shots were fired. Despite circulating reports and Facebook posts offering condolences for a deputy being shot, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office clarified that no law enforcement personnel had been shot or injured “at this time.”

After an hours-long standoff, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. team forced entry into the room. The suspect was found inside with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The U.S. Marshals will be leading the investigation.
