Man Arrested After Domestic Violence Assault, 11-Year-Old Rescued by SWAT in Coweta County

On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Coweta County Deputies were dispatched to an address on Couch Road in response to a domestic violence assault. The caller reported that her boyfriend had assaulted her, threatened to kill the entire family, had access to weapons, and stated he would not return to jail. Upon arrival, deputies met with the caller and another family member by the road and learned that an 11-year-old child was still inside the home asleep.

Given the complexity of the situation, Coweta County SWAT and the Criminal Investigation Unit were called to the scene. Additional support was requested from Newnan PD SWAT and Fulton County PD SWAT.

SWAT teams entered the home, successfully rescuing the 11-year-old child, who was handed over to a family member unharmed. The suspect, 37-year-old Michael Keith Burns, was then called out of the home, and he surrendered without further incident. Burns was transported to the Coweta County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault and Simple Battery-Family Violence.
