Macon Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault and Escape After Shooting Incident

An arrest has been made following an aggravated assault that occurred in the 1000 block of Riverside Drive. The Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center received a call about the incident at 12:02 p.m. on August 15, 2024.

According to witnesses, a verbal altercation between two men escalated, leading one of them to fire shots at the other. The intended target was not injured, and no one else in the area was harmed. The suspect fled the scene immediately.

Deputies later located the suspect at a residence in the 100 block of Hill Street. The suspect, 42-year-old Zavier Markieth Ottman of Macon, attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. Ottman was taken to a medical facility for treatment, where he tried to escape again but was promptly recaptured. He was subsequently transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Ottman faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Felony Escape. He is currently being held without bond. Ottman was already wanted in Bibb County for four counts of Aggravated Assault and Felony Theft by Taking Auto.
