Georgia Deputy Fatally Shoots Man After Domestic Dispute in Laurens County

At the request of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Alamo, Laurens County, Georgia. The incident resulted in the death of Curtis “CJ” Glen Purvis Jr., 31, of McRae-Helena, GA. No officers were injured.

On August 15, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about a domestic dispute at a residence in the 2000 block of Sudie Pearl Jones Road. Upon arrival, the deputy found that Purvis Jr. had left the location. While the deputy was speaking with the victim, an acquaintance of Purvis Jr., Purvis Jr. returned to the scene. He struck another vehicle and the victim’s father with his car before coming to a halt.

The deputy fired at Purvis Jr.’s vehicle prior to the collisions. Purvis Jr. exited his car, entered the home, and stabbed the victim. He emerged from the residence with a knife, and the deputy shot him. Purvis Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.

The body of Purvis Jr. will be transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The stabbing victim and the victim’s father were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The deputy involved in this shooting, accordance to Laurens County Sheriff’s Office policy, was placed on administrative leave while this incident is under investigation. This is standard practice by the Sheriff’s Office for any officer involved shooting.
