Athens-Clarke County Unified Government Seeks Candidates for Policy-Making Boards
The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) is actively seeking qualified candidates to fill terms on nine critical policy-making boards. These boards play a significant role in shaping local policies and guiding various aspects of community development.
The positions available are for the following boards:
- Two positions on the Athens Downtown Development Authority for a property owner and a business owner for a term of two years.*
- Two positions on the Athens in Motion Commission for a term of five years.*
- One position on the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Region 2 Advisory Council for a term of three years.
- One position on the Division of Family and Children Services for a term of five years.*
- One position on the Hearings Board for a partial term expiring June 30, 2025.
- Six positions on the Human Relations Commission for a term of four years.
- One position on the Planning Commission for a partial term expiring June 30, 2025.
- Two positions on the Public Safety Civilian Oversight Board for a partial term expiring May 31, 2025.
- Three positions on the Vision Committee for a term of three years; one position for a partial term expiring June 30, 2025; one position for a term expiring June 30, 2026.*

Applicants for any board, authority, or commission positions must be Athens-Clarke County residents. More detailed information about each board, authority, or commission is available online at www.accgov.com/boards.
Applications can be filled out online at www.accgov.com/boards or obtained from the Clerk of Commission’s Office in Room 204 of City Hall, 301 College Avenue. The deadline for receiving applications is Friday, August 16. A separate application must be completed for each position.
The Mayor and Commission is tentatively scheduled to interview applicants on Tuesday, August 27 beginning at 4:00 PM at a location to be determined. These will be the only dates for interviews, which will be open to the public. Applicants who are selected for an interview will receive a notification of their interview time.
The Mayor and Commission is tentatively scheduled to make appointments at the Regular Session meeting on Tuesday, September 3.
