Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center Receives 14th Consecutive Stroke Gold Plus Award

Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center has been honored with its 14th consecutive American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award. This recognition highlights the hospital’s ongoing commitment to adhering to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines for stroke treatment.

Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin has also been recognized, receiving the American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Silver award.

Dr. Patrice Walker, Chief Medical Officer at Atrium Health Navicent, emphasized the significance of these awards, noting the hospital’s long-standing dedication to excellence in stroke care and its continuous improvement efforts throughout central Georgia.

“Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center has been honored annually since 2008 for its dedication to providing excellent health care to patients experiencing a stroke, saving lives and reducing disability caused by stroke,” said Atrium Health Navicent Chief Medical Officer Dr. Patrice Walker. “The additional recognition for Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin demonstrates our commitment to continuously improving patient care throughout central Georgia. Utilizing the latest treatment guidelines, we are reaching more patients with the highest standards of care, giving them the chance to live longer, healthier lives.”

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the U.S., with a new or recurrent stroke occurring nearly every 40 seconds. Early detection and treatment are crucial for improving survival and recovery.

The Get With The Guidelines Stroke program supports hospitals in following the latest evidence-based guidelines, enhancing stroke care and patient outcomes. Hospitals apply annually for awards based on their commitment to quality care and patient education.

Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center is also a certified Primary Stroke Center, while Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin is designated as a Remote Stroke Center by the Georgia Department of Public Health. Additionally, both hospitals have been named to the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes℠ Honor Roll for four consecutive years. This recognition aligns with their stroke achievement award, as diabetes is a risk factor for stroke.

In central Georgia, where 17.2% of adults report a diabetes diagnosis, Atrium Health Navicent supports diabetes management through its Healthy Communities Diabetes Disease Management Program and Diabetes Healthways Program, providing education and ongoing support for diabetes patients.
