Glynn County and Brunswick Declare State of Emergency Ahead of Hurricane Debby
In anticipation of Hurricane Debby’s impact on southeast Georgia, both Glynn County Commission Chairman Wayne Neal and the City of Brunswick Mayor Cosby Johnson signed documents declaring a State of Emergency on Monday morning.
The impact of these declarations allows for the activation and implementation of ordinances deemed necessary for a state of emergency. The declarations enable the city and county to put in place guidelines to protect consumers, such as ensuring vendors maintain fair prices and preventing price gouging. They also expedite measures in the wake of the storm, such as suspending building permits.
This declaration allows both the city and county to be better positioned for reimbursements from state and federal governments if needed during or after Hurricane Debby. It ensures that the city and county work together during cleanup operations following the storm. The emergency declaration remains in effect until the state of emergency is declared complete by the county commission chairman, not merely when the storm passes.
