Possible Drowning Incident Under Investigation at Amerson River Park

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Macon Bibb County Fire Department, and members of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded to Amerson River Park on the afternoon of July 28, 2024, to investigate a possible drowning.

According to witnesses, a 26-year-old male was swimming in the Ocmulgee River when he went under the water and did not resurface. The Macon Bibb E-911 Center received a call at 12:54 p.m. regarding the incident.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and conducted a search for the individual. Dive teams halted their search efforts around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening, with plans to resume the search on Monday morning. The name of the individual involved has not been released at this time.
