Pregnant Woman and Unborn Child Killed in Columbus Stabbing; Husband Arrested

On July 5, 2024, at 1:48 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the 100 block of 20th Avenue (E. Canty Homes) in reference to a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female, later identified as 20-year-old Chasity Dean suffering from a stab wound.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported Chasity to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where it was confirmed that she was pregnant. At 2:29 p.m., an emergency room doctor pronounced both the mother and fetus deceased. The victims’ bodies will be sent for an autopsy.

The Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene to take lead on the investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed 20-year-old Kyle Dean the husband of the victim, as the suspect. Kyle Dean was taken into custody at a residence in East Alabama. He was transported to the Lee County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Columbus, GA.

Dean’s arrest was the result of a collaborative effort led by the Columbus Police Department in partnership with the Fort Moore Criminal Investigative Division, Russell County Sheriff’s Office, Phenix City Police Department, and Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
