DEA-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in Clayton County

At the request of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Clayton County, Georgia. The incident resulted in one man’s death, while no agents were injured.

On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at approximately 6:00 a.m., DEA agents and task force officers were executing a federal search warrant for drug offenses at a home on the 1600 block of Bag Pipe Place in Conley. The DEA also had federal arrest warrants for the occupant. Upon entering the home, agents saw a man run into a room. The man later appeared with a gun and fired at the agents, who then returned fire and took cover inside the home. Agents continued to hear gunfire from the man’s last known location but did not engage further. They eventually heard a single gunshot and found the man with a gunshot wound. Clayton County Fire and EMS were notified, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the man will be released once next of kin are notified. His body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation, and the case file will be reviewed by the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete.
