Teen Shoots 10-Year-old Sister, Then Himself in Troup County

On June 4, 2024, at 10:41 PM, deputies from the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a home in the 1600 block of Bartley Road in LaGrange in response to reports of two juveniles being shot.

Upon arrival, first responders found a 15-year-old male and a 10-year-old female, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Immediate life-saving measures were administered to the victims, who were then transported to Wellstar West Georgia Emergency Department.

Initial investigations by the Troup County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division revealed that the 15-year-old male had shot his 10-year-old sister with a handgun for unknown reasons before shooting himself a few minutes later. The two victims are siblings.

The 10-year-old female was subsequently transferred to an Atlanta area hospital for further treatment, while the 15-year-old male remains in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE June 7, 2024: Earlier today an investigator with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigations Division was able to interview the 10 year old victim in the shooting incident which occurred on June 4th. From that interview, it was determined that the shooting was a tragic accident in the matter of the 15 year old shooting the 10 year old and there was no criminal intent. It was also determined, after that shooting, the 15 year old did shoot himself.
