Domestic Disputed Leads to Officer-Involved Shooting in Gwinnett County

The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on the 300 block of Foxcroft Road on June 1.

At approximately 10:21 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call from a teenager reporting an argument between her mother and stepfather. The teenager informed dispatchers that her stepfather had armed himself with a gun during the dispute.

The first officer arrived at the residence around 10:25 a.m. and heard arguing from the backyard. As the officer walked up the driveway, he heard a gunshot. Approaching the backyard fence, the officer saw a male suspect holding a gun. The officer commanded the suspect to drop the weapon. The suspect confronted the officer with the gun, prompting the officer to fire his service weapon, striking the suspect in the leg.

The suspect dropped the gun, and officers immediately rendered aid. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The Gwinnett County Police Department’s crime scene unit and the Deadly Force Investigation Team (DFIT) responded to the scene. Charges against the suspect are pending as the investigation continues.
