Gas Station Altercation in Macon Leads to Fatal Shooting: Suspect Apprehended
A violent altercation unfolded at a Sunoco gas station located at 4961 Log Cabin Dr in Macon on Sunday, April 7, 2024, leaving one man injured and another in police custody.
At approximately 8:06 am, a Bibb County deputy responded to reports of a shooting at the gas station. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a man lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the stomach. The victim was bleeding profusely from the wound which traversed through the front and back of his abdomen.
A witness present at the scene provided crucial information to the authorities. According to the witness, the incident stemmed from a dispute over the sale of tobacco cigars. Edwardo Eugene Bigelow Jr. allegedly entered the store and attempted to purchase tobacco without presenting identification. When the employee at the gas station booth, refused to sell the item, a verbal altercation ensued.
The situation escalated when Bigelow retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and returned to the store. Surveillance footage captured the ensuing confrontation between Bigelow and the victim, which quickly turned physical. Bigelow then brandished the firearm, shooting the victim once before fleeing the scene in his vehicle.
Law enforcement recovered a shell casing from the store front near the entrance, along with the firearm used in the assault, identified as a Smith & Wesson 9V. The wounded man was transported to Navicent Health. The following day, he died.
Edwardo Eugene Bigelow Jr. was apprehended and charged with probation violation and aggravated assault in connection with the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
