Telemarketing Scam Leads to Dozens of Felony Charges in Washington County

On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Destiny Danyell Magoon, 32, hailing from Sandersville, Georgia. Ms. Magoon faces twelve counts of felony Theft by Deception.

The charges stem from a series of complaints received by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division. Ms. Magoon operated a telemarketing business promising to create mementos for customers. Customers entrusted her with irreplaceable items belonging to deceased loved ones, but neither received the promised product nor had their items returned.

The investigation is ongoing, revealing over 200 victims from 25 states at the time of this release. Authorities urge anyone who believes they may have fallen victim to this scam to come forward and contact the Sheriff’s Office.
