Toccoa Man Arrested in Connection with Drive-By Shooting Case in Athens
Cornelius Devaughn Curry, a 20-year-old resident of Toccoa, Georgia, was apprehended by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) in Athens-Clarke County during a warrant operation on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Curry faces multiple charges, including four counts of Aggravated Assault, four counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of Certain Crimes, two counts of Aggravated Battery, and four violations of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism Prevention Act.
The arrest stems from an incident that occurred on Sunday, March 31, 2024, around 12:30 a.m., when the Toccoa Police Department requested GBI assistance in investigating a drive-by shooting on West Whitman Street. The shooting resulted in two individuals sustaining gunshot wounds, who were later treated and released from local hospitals.
Following an investigation led by the GBI’s regional investigative office in Cleveland and the GBI Gang Task Force, a search warrant and arrest operation were carried out on Vintage Court in Athens-Clarke County. This operation involved cooperation between the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and various GBI units, including the regional investigative office in Athens, resulting in Curry’s arrest on the specified charges.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further arrests are anticipated in connection with the case. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the case file will be forwarded to the Mountain Circuit Judicial Circuit District Attorney for prosecution.
