Fatal Traffic Accident on Interstate 475 Under Zebulon Road Overpass

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred on Interstate 475 North, beneath the Zebulon Road overpass. The incident was reported to the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center at 12:13 p.m. on Friday.

Witnesses at the scene recounted that a Kenworth construction vehicle was traveling north on Interstate 475 with its mounted drill extended upwards. As the vehicle approached the Zebulon Road overpass, the extended equipment collided with the structure, causing the construction vehicle to overturn.

Emergency responders from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the Macon-Bibb Fire Department swiftly arrived at the scene. The driver of the construction vehicle, a 39-year-old male, was extricated from the vehicle and provided with medical attention. He was subsequently transported to Atrium Navicent Health by ambulance, where medical staff confirmed his passing due to the injuries sustained in the accident. At this time, the victim’s identity has not been disclosed.

Additionally, three other vehicles traveling east on the Zebulon Road overpass incurred minor damage from debris resulting from the accident. No other injuries were reported among the occupants of these vehicles.
