Gwinnett County Police Use PIT Maneuver to End Pursuit on I-85
In the early hours of Wednesday, April 17, the Gwinnett County Crime Suppression Unit undertook a pursuit in the unincorporated area of Duluth near Pleasant Hill Road and Venture Drive. The target was a red passenger car, its driver wanted for two counts of Aggravated Assault. As officers moved to intercept, the driver evaded, sparking a chase.
Ignoring warnings, the driver sped onto Interstate 85 northbound from Pleasant Hill Road. As the vehicle descended the ramp, law enforcement executed a PIT Maneuver, halting the car. Following the maneuver, officers conducted a felony traffic stop, successfully apprehending the suspect.
Identified as Richard Shaquan Davis, a 30-year-old from Snellville, the individual faces charges including two counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of Certain Felonies, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude an Officer. Shaquan now resides in Gwinnett County Jail, denied bond.
Fortunately, neither officers nor the suspect sustained injuries during the operation.
