GBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Statesboro
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Statesboro, Bulloch County, Georgia, at the request of the Statesboro Police Department.
Nineteen-year-old Anthony De’Jarion Kent, hailing from Vidalia, Georgia, sustained injuries during the incident, which also left one officer wounded.
The events unfolded on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, around 10:00 p.m. when the Statesboro Police Department responded to an entering auto complaint at Copper Beech Apartments. Initial reports suggest that upon arrival, the responding officer encountered Kent in a parked car within the apartment complex. Following an attempt to engage Kent, gunfire was exchanged.
Kent fled from the scene but was later apprehended by law enforcement personnel. Both Kent and the injured officer were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The officer is reported to be in stable condition, while Kent was treated and subsequently released before being booked into the Bulloch County Jail.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation into the incident, with the findings to be submitted to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review upon completion.
