Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Warns Citizens of Scam Calls

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is alerting citizens about an ongoing scam where callers claim to represent the sheriff’s office. The scam involves callers falsely stating that the recipient of the call or someone in their household has an arrest warrant for not appearing in court or another violation.

These scammers are utilizing a technique called “spoofing” to make it appear as though the call is coming from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, they are using the names of actual deputies employed by the sheriff’s office to further deceive individuals.

The callers attempt to persuade recipients to pay a fine immediately, claiming it will prevent arrest. They instruct victims to make payments at various money transfer locations.

It’s important to note that the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office does not conduct business in this manner. They do not make threatening calls regarding arrest warrants or request payment to avoid arrest.

If you receive a similar call, the sheriff’s office advises writing down the number the scammer called from and the name they used. To verify if it’s a scam, individuals can call the Bibb County Sheriff Law Enforcement Center at 478-746-9441.

For those who wish to report a scam where no money exchange occurred, they can visit www.bibbsheriff.us. On the website, users should click on “How do I” in the upper right corner, then select “file a report online” and choose “See something, say something.” If money was exchanged or there was a loss, individuals should select “Scam” and provide as many details as possible in the narrative.
