Shoplifting Suspect Caught by Gwinnett County Police with Aviation and K9 Units

Gwinnett County Police officers successfully apprehended a shoplifting suspect with the assistance of the Aviation and K9 Units. The incident took place on March 13 at around 4:00 p.m. when officers from the South Precinct responded to a shoplifting report at Walmart on 1825 Rockbridge Road in unincorporated Stone Mountain.

Upon arrival, officers were informed by a store associate about the suspect’s identity. However, when they attempted to approach him, the suspect fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood. The Gwinnett County Aviation Unit was called in and quickly located the suspect running alongside powerlines nearby. With the area cordoned off, the K9 Unit was deployed, and K-9 Nitro was able to track the suspect to a storage shed behind a neighboring home.

The suspect was identified as Walter Burrell Johns, aged 33 from Atlanta. He was arrested without further incident and taken into custody. Walter has been charged with Theft by Shoplifting and Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers. He was subsequently transported to Gwinnett County Jail.
