The investigation stems from an incident on June 16, 2023, when the Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a shooting that resulted in the death of Brian Arnold-Causey, aged 19 and also from Snellville. Arnold-Causey was dropped off at Gwinnett County Fire Station 6 with gunshot wounds, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Anwar Singleton was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on October 28, 2023, while Prince James had remained at large until his recent arrest.
