Apartment Fire in Lawrenceville Leaves One Injured, Three Displaced

On March 14, 2024, Gwinnett County Firefighters rushed to respond to an apartment fire at Park on Sweetwater apartments located at 3400 Sweetwater Road NW. The emergency call came in at 6:23 a.m., reporting flames engulfing one of the units.

A Battalion Chief, upon receiving the call, requested additional equipment after hearing the severity of the situation. When law enforcement arrived, smoke was already billowing from a closed door within one of the apartments. Despite attempts to enter, the conditions were too hazardous for immediate intervention.

Firefighters arrived to find a three-story apartment building ablaze, with the fire centered in a first-floor unit. Concerns were raised about a potential victim still trapped inside. Crews wasted no time deploying hoses and initiating rescue operations.

Their efforts paid off when they located an unconscious male victim within the affected apartment. Quick action from firefighters and medical crews resulted in the victim receiving emergency medical care on-site before being transported to a nearby hospital.

Collaborating with Gwinnett County Police, fire crews evacuated neighboring apartments, ensuring the safety of other residents. By 6:38 a.m., the fire was under control, contained within the confines of a single unit. No other injuries were reported at the scene.

Three adults found themselves displaced as a result of the early morning blaze. However, apartment management is actively coordinating with the American Red Cross to provide support to those affected.

Upon investigation, fire officials determined the fire originated in the terrace apartment unit, citing incendiary causes.

The response to the emergency involved an array of equipment, including four engines, two ladder trucks, and various support units like medics and investigators, showcasing the collaborative effort of emergency responders in tackling the incident head-on.
