Brooks County Shooting: Nephew Arrested for Uncle’s Murder

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has made an arrest in connection to a shooting incident in Brooks County, Georgia. Jonah Kenney, 27, from Quitman, GA, faces charges including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a crime.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, around 8:40 p.m., prompting the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office to seek GBI assistance following the shooting death of 56-year-old Jed Maichele of Quitman, GA.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on the same day, Brooks County 911 received multiple reports of a shooting in the 1800 block of Blair Road. Deputies arrived to find Maichele with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Brooks County Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Investigators identified Kenney, Maichele’s nephew, as a suspect. Kenney was apprehended by a Georgia State Patrol Trooper for unrelated traffic offenses in the area.

Following questioning by GBI agents, Kenney was taken into custody and booked at Brooks County Jail.

The body of Maichele will undergo an autopsy at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office as part of the ongoing investigation.
