Conyers Man Charged with Child Abuse After Beating with Electrical Cord
A Rockdale County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a distress call at Flat Shoals Elementary School in Conyers on February 7, 2024, following reports of child abuse. A school staff member informed the deputy that a student had disclosed being beaten with an electrical cord. Subsequently, Kowalkwaski Antonio Wright was apprehended and charged with Cruelty to Children 1st Degree.
According to the child’s testimony to the deputy, on February 12th, 2024, upon returning home from school, he was watching television on Mr. Kowalkwaski Wright’s set when he heard the latter arrive. Sensing trouble, the child attempted to flee, as watching TV was against the rules. However, Mr. Wright seized an electrical cord from the TV box along with a belt and proceeded to beat him with it. The assault resulted in multiple bruises, welts, and broken skin.
Upon learning of the incident, the child’s grandmother also arrived at the school. When questioned, she told the deputy that she had witnessed that her grandson was bleeding from his back. Initially, the child claimed to have injured himself on exercise equipment, but Mr. Wright had already confessed to the grandmother of whipping him. Following instructions, Mr. Wright presented himself at the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
