18-Year-Old Arrested in Stolen Vehicle, Facing Kidnapping Charges in Gwinnett County
An 18-year-old, Shiheen Junnelle Russell of Duluth, was arrested on March 8 in Peachtree Corners after officers located a stolen vehicle near Peachtree Parkway and Spalding Drive. Gwinnett County Police Officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, but Russell, the driver, accelerated and evaded capture. With the help of the Aviation Unit, officers tracked the stolen vehicle to the back of a nearby school where Russell and two passengers exited the vehicle.
While the passengers cooperated with officers, Russell was apprehended on an adjacent street. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered two firearms, one of which had been reported stolen at the time the vehicle was taken. Following interviews with all three individuals, it was determined that the passengers were not involved in the incident and were released.
Russell, however, faces multiple charges including two counts of kidnapping, four counts of theft by receiving stolen property, two counts of possession of a firearm or knife during certain felonies, theft of lost or mislaid property, carrying a weapon within school safety zones, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, and various other traffic-related charges. The kidnapping charges relate to the two other occupants in the vehicle who were not participating in the criminal activities.
Russell was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail following his arrest.
