Arrest Made in Connection with Death Investigation on Houston Avenue in Macon

On March 8, 2024, Derrick Jermaine Berry, 49, of Macon, was taken into custody and booked into the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Berry was sought in connection with the death of Tavores Maurice Pearson, 44, which occurred on January 16, 2024.

According to authorities, Berry was apprehended by the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Kennesaw, Georgia, on Thursday morning, March 7, 2024. He was subsequently transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on Friday afternoon.

Derrick Jermaine Berry faces a charge of Murder and is being held without bond.

The investigation stems from an incident on January 15, 2024, within the 3200 block of Houston Avenue. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call made to the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center at 9:25 p.m. Deputies arrived at the scene to find Tavores Maurice Pearson suffering from a gunshot wound. Pearson was transported to a medical facility for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. Deputy Coroner Richard Robinson pronounced Pearson deceased.
