GBI Probes Fatality After Georgia Highway Pursuit

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently probing the demise of William Charles Lamberti, aged 48, from Demorest, GA, following a traffic incident along Georgia Highway 115 in Habersham County, Georgia, on March 3, 2024.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., the Clarkesville Police initiated a traffic halt on a truck operated by Lamberti. Despite the attempt to pull over, Lamberti declined to comply, prompting a pursuit. Notably, there was a passenger present in the vehicle alongside Lamberti. Joining the pursuit were units from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Demorest Police Department. The chase concluded when a Habersham County Sheriff’s deputy executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver on Lamberti’s truck, bringing it to a halt near Georgia Highway 115 and Habersham Mills Road. Subsequently, Lamberti discharged a firearm, resulting in self-inflicted injuries inside the truck.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provided immediate care to Lamberti and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Georgia State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident due to the employment of the PIT maneuver.

Lamberti’s body is scheduled to undergo an autopsy at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office as part of the ongoing investigation.
