Teen Fatally Shot in Belvedere Park: Columbus Police Launch Investigation

Early Sunday morning, tragedy struck in Belvedere Park as Columbus Police Officers responded to a shooting incident.

At 1:41 a.m., officers arrived at the 700 block of Parkview Drive to find a Black male, later identified as Earkus Porter, Jr., 18, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from EMS, Porter could not be revived. Coroner Buddy Bryan declared him deceased at 2:21 p.m.

The Violent Crimes Unit has taken charge of the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to Sgt. D. Baker at 706-225-4296 or via email at DBaker@columbusga.org. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through City Protect or by texting VACS followed by the message to 274637 (CRIMES). Informants leading to an arrest could be eligible for a reward.
