Detainee Dies Following Medical Emergency at Chatham County Detention Center

On Wednesday, February 21, at approximately 1:13 p.m., a detainee, Mr. Julian Harris, experienced a medical emergency in the housing unit day room of the Chatham County Detention Center.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Unit Officer and the inmates in the day room immediately attempted lifesaving measures. Following protocol, medical staff and officers responded. Emergency Medical Services (EMS), medical staff, and officers continued performing lifesaving measures.

Mr. Harris was transported to Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 3:18 p.m.

The next of kin of Mr. Harris have been notified.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Region 5 Investigative Office is currently conducting the investigation.
