Bicyclist Dies After Collision with Vehicle in Summerhill Intersection

On Sunday, July 28, 2024, at approximately 3:30 PM, Atlanta officers were dispatched to the intersection of Martin Street SE and Ormond Street SE following a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found a 63-year-old male bicyclist who was not alert or conscious but appeared to be breathing. The individual was transported to the hospital where, despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the bicyclist was traveling southbound on Martin Street SE when he failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection of Martin Street SE and Ormond Street SE. As he continued through the intersection, he collided with a 2015 Toyota Camry traveling westbound on Ormond Street SE. The impact caused the bicyclist to be ejected from his bike and onto the roadway. The driver of the Toyota Camry remained at the scene.

The Accident Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
