Fight and Shooting in Athens Leaves Two Injured

On June 14, 2024, at approximately 1:49 PM, Athens-Clarke County Police responded to reports of a fight and a shooting on the 100 block of Hickman Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a female with several abrasions on her head. The initial investigation revealed she had been struck multiple times on the head with a pistol.

During the investigation, officers located Tysean Davis, who had a gunshot wound. Davis, 27, of Athens, was identified as the person who had assaulted the female. He was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Battery. Davis received treatment at a local hospital before being transported to Clarke County Jail.

Witnesses indicated that a third individual, Byron Smith, shot Davis and then fled the scene. Smith, 28, of Athens, has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. As of the press release, he has not been taken into custody.
