Teen Surrenders, Second Suspect at Large in Columbus Shooting of 6-Year-Old
On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, authorities responded to reports of a shooting on Tracy Street in the 4500 block at approximately 12:31 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Cameron Thomas, a 6-year-old, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Thomas was transported by EMS to Piedmont Hospital and subsequently transferred to a children’s hospital in Atlanta for further treatment.
The Violent Crimes Unit took charge of the investigation, with Corporal Jared Berger leading the efforts. Following an extensive inquiry, Makaliah Briscoe was apprehended later that morning and charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault. Additionally, warrants were issued for a 16-year-old male and Robert Walker, aged 20.
On May 6, 2024, the 16-year-old voluntarily surrendered himself to the Talbot County Sheriff’s Department in Talbot County, Georgia. He was then returned to Columbus and placed in RYDC pending a hearing in Juvenile Court scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. His charges include four counts of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime.
Robert Walker remains at large with outstanding warrants for four counts of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime. Authorities consider him armed and dangerous.
