Macon Veterans Day Parade Sunday Draws Record 75 Units, C-130 Flyover

MACON, Georgia – The Macon Veterans Day Parade steps off at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 8, in downtown Macon with its biggest field yet: more than 75 units. A C-130 flyover from Robins Air Force Base will open the event.

The International Cherry Blossom Festival hosts the parade. It is free and open to the public.

Route and what to bring

The parade starts near Terminal Station and moves through downtown Macon toward First Street. Organizers urge spectators to arrive early and claim a viewing spot before the flyover.

Families are encouraged to wear red, white and blue, bring American flags and line the streets to welcome veterans and military families.

Who will march

More than 20 entries focus specifically on veterans, representing military service, sacrifice and remembrance. Organizers highlighted four participants:

  • Rolling Thunder Georgia Chapter 3: The Middle Georgia chapter will carry a POW/MIA memorial “Chair of Honor” for service members who remain prisoners of war or missing in action.
  • Military Gold Star Family: Cathy Krattli, a Gold Star Mother, will take part in honor of her son, Marine Corps Corporal Billy Taylor, who was killed in Iraq in 2005.
  • National Montford Point Marine Association, Chapter 35 of Warner Robins: The group honors the African American Marines who trained at the segregated Montford Point camp in New River, North Carolina, between 1942 and 1949.
  • Middle Georgia Honor Flight: The volunteer-supported group gives eligible veterans free, one-day trips to Washington, D.C., to visit national memorials dedicated to their service.

Several Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, American Legion posts, other veterans organizations, patriotic motorcycle groups and floats will also march. Local businesses, civic organizations and community members round out the procession.
