Man Shot by Off-Duty Hinesville Officer After Firing Gun Into Crowd, GBI Says

HINESVILLE, Ga. – A 31-year-old man is hospitalized in critical condition after an off-duty Hinesville police officer shot him outside a bar where authorities say the man had fired a handgun multiple times into a crowd.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the injured man as Cashane Cadeem Calder of Hinesville. No officers were injured.

The shooting happened around 1:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, outside Frozen Paradise Bar and Grill at 818 E.G. Miles Parkway.

According to preliminary information released by the GBI, two Hinesville Police Department officers were working off-duty at the business when a fight broke out among a group of people inside the bar.

The group eventually moved outside, where the two officers were positioned.

A customer alerted one of the officers to the fight, and the officer began moving toward the building.

At that point, Calder fired a handgun multiple times in the crowd, according to the GBI.

One of the officers opened fire, striking Calder several times.

Calder was transported to a hospital, where authorities said he was in stable but critical condition.

The GBI is investigating the officer-involved shooting at the request of the Hinesville Police Department.

Authorities have not released the names of the officers or said what led to the initial fight.
