The fire occurred on August 26, 2026, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Everyone inside the home was able to get to safety, and no injuries were reported.

Despite the efforts of emergency crews, the family lost everything in the fire and was left with only the clothing they were wearing.

Members of the Twiggs County Fire Department and Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office worked together at the scene in an effort to save the home.

The Sheriff’s Office said its chief deputy and his son, who serves with the Fire Department, were among those working a fire hose and battling the flames.

Following the fire, authorities issued an appeal for community assistance. The displaced family needs clothing, household necessities and financial assistance as they begin recovering from the loss.

“This is what community is all about, neighbors helping neighbors when they need it most,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials encouraged residents who are able to contribute clothing, supplies or financial assistance to help the family, saying donations of any size could make a difference.
