Teen Arrested After Armed Robbery at Norcross Texaco Ends in Hotel Standoff

NORCROSS, Ga. – A 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody after allegedly firing a shot during an attempted armed robbery at a Norcross gas station before barricading himself inside a nearby hotel room, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The robbery occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on Aug. 3 at the Texaco convenience store located at 5045 Singleton Road.

Officers assigned to the West Precinct responded after receiving reports of an armed robbery that had just occurred.

Investigators said the suspect attempted to lure the cashier from behind the protective counter. When the cashier refused, the suspect issued a countdown warning before firing a single shot through the store’s plexiglass barrier.

The cashier was not struck by the gunfire and was not injured during the incident.

After the shot was fired, the suspect fled the store on foot.

Using surveillance video and investigative leads, officers tracked the suspect to the Red Roof Inn near the intersection of Brook Hollow Parkway and Indian Trail Lilburn Road.

Police identified the room where the suspect was staying. Authorities said the suspect barricaded himself inside for a short time before officers were able to safely take him into custody.

The suspect was identified as 17-year-old Dearian Tucker.

Detectives continued processing the crime scene and interviewing Tucker following his arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not announced any additional charges.
