Macon-Bibb Sidewalk Assessment Reaches 54% Completion Under County Infrastructure Initiative
MACON, Ga. Macon-Bibb County has reached a major milestone in its countywide sidewalk assessment, with more than half of the project now complete as officials continue gathering data to improve pedestrian infrastructure.
County officials announced that Citylogix has completed approximately 54% of its sidewalk analysis and 100% of its assessment of more than 9,263 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility ramps throughout the county.
The assessment is part of Macon-Bibb County’s “Paving the Way” initiative, an ongoing program focused on improving transportation infrastructure and making it safer and easier for residents to travel throughout the community.
In April, the county contracted with Citylogix to evaluate approximately 351 miles of sidewalks and every ADA accessibility ramp in Macon-Bibb.
The company is using an e-scooter equipped with high-resolution cameras, GPS technology and mobile data collection tools to document sidewalk conditions. The system identifies issues such as cracks, uneven pavement, tree root damage and other hazards that can affect pedestrian safety.
Once collected, the information is analyzed and each sidewalk is assigned a condition score ranging from 0 to 100, with 100 representing the highest possible rating. County officials said the completed inventory will provide a detailed overview of sidewalk conditions and help prioritize future maintenance, repairs and infrastructure investments.
The sidewalk assessment follows a similar roadway evaluation completed by Citylogix, which analyzed approximately 1,100 miles of county-owned paved roads. That study has been used to identify streets most in need of resurfacing based on pavement condition, traffic volume and roadway connectivity.
County officials said the sidewalk project will provide the same data-driven approach for future pedestrian improvements, helping ensure infrastructure funding is directed to areas with the greatest need.
