Suspect Identified in Lavonia Pharmacy Burglary After Georgia State Patrol Pursuit

LAVONIA, Ga. – A suspect has been identified in the burglary of a Lavonia pharmacy after a Georgia State Patrol pursuit ended with the recovery of prescription medications believed to have been stolen during the break-in, authorities said.

According to the Lavonia Police Department, officers responded on July 22 to an audible alarm at Riggins Pharmacy. Officers arrived within three to four minutes of being dispatched and discovered the front door had been forcibly entered.

Investigators said an undisclosed quantity of prescription medications had been stolen from the business.

Officers processed the scene for evidence while K-9 Lobo tracked the suspect’s scent to an area behind the shopping center before losing the trail.

Later that day, Georgia State Patrol troopers pursued a vehicle that ultimately stopped in Douglas County after troopers performed a Precision Immobilization Technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver.

During the investigation, troopers recovered prescription medications believed to have been stolen from Riggins Pharmacy. Authorities also found clothing inside the vehicle that matched what the burglary suspect was seen wearing in surveillance footage released earlier in the day.

Lavonia detectives worked alongside the Georgia State Patrol throughout the investigation and traveled to Douglas County to conduct additional investigative work.

Police said detectives are in the process of obtaining burglary warrants for Lamarcus Deanthony Jones, who is from the Tuscaloosa, Alabama, area.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said additional charges may be filed.
