Waycross Man Arrested After Shooting Into Home, Vehicle and Police Pursuit

WAYCROSS, Ga. – A 21-year-old Waycross man has been arrested after police say he fired a shotgun into a residence and a parked vehicle before leading officers on a vehicle pursuit two days later.

According to the Waycross Police Department, officers responded at approximately 8:57 p.m. on July 13 to a reported shooting in the 1600 block of Madison Street.

Investigators determined that a suspect had fired a shotgun into an occupied residence and a parked vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Ivan Velazquez of Waycross and obtained arrest warrants charging him with three counts of aggravated assault.

On July 15, officers conducting an operation to locate Velazquez spotted him driving a 2018 Nissan Altima.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, police said Velazquez fled, leading officers on a vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit ended in the 1500 block of Carswell Avenue, where Velazquez was taken into custody without further incident.

He was transported to the Ware County Jail, where he is being held on three counts of aggravated assault.

Police said additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
