Macon Man Arrested on Murder Charge in Death of 80-Year-Old Woman

MACON, Ga. A Macon man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of an 80-year-old woman following a domestic disturbance last month, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrest stems from a death investigation that began after the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center received a call at approximately 11:08 a.m. on July 1.

On the morning of July 10, members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, assisted by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, Special Investigations Unit and Patrol Division, executed a search warrant and arrest warrant at a residence on Woodland Drive.

Authorities arrested 40-year-old John Lyons O’Connor without incident.

Investigators said O’Connor was wanted in connection with the death of 80-year-old Mary Louise Montgomery O’Connor, who was pronounced dead on July 1 by Deputy Coroner Luanne Stone.

According to the sheriff’s office, an autopsy conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined Mary O’Connor’s death was a homicide.

Investigators said the homicide was linked to injuries she sustained during a domestic disturbance that occurred on June 18 at approximately 11:03 p.m.

John O’Connor was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, where he was booked on a charge of murder.

He is being held without bond.
