Athens Teen Arrested After Gunfire Damages Downtown Businesses
ATHENS, Ga. — A 19-year-old Athens man has been arrested after police say gunfire damaged several downtown businesses early Sunday morning.
According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, officers responded at approximately 3:05 a.m. on July 5 to a report of shots fired in the area of 246 East Clayton Street.
The preliminary investigation determined that no one was injured during the incident. However, multiple businesses along East Clayton Street were struck by gunfire.
With assistance from the University of Georgia Police Department, officers arrested 19-year-old Damian Swint of Athens.
Swint has been charged with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Reckless Conduct
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of Certain Felonies
- Theft by Receiving Stolen Property
- Carrying a Weapon in a School Safety Zone
- Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon
The investigation remains ongoing.
