GBI Investigating Fatal Fourth of July Shooting in Vidalia

VIDALIA, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Vidalia Police Department with a homicide investigation after a man was fatally shot early on the Fourth of July.

According to the GBI, officers with the Vidalia Police Department responded at approximately 3:13 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, to a report of shots fired in the 500 block of East Jenkins Street.

When officers arrived, they found 36-year-old Rashad Lamar Lumpkin of Atlanta lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

Lumpkin was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Vidalia Police Department requested the GBI to conduct the investigation.

Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
