Atlanta Man Arrested After Robbing Victim, Shooting Him With His Own Gun

ATLANTA, Georgia – An Atlanta man has been arrested after police say he robbed a victim of a firearm and then used that weapon to shoot him.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded on May 22 to 80 Jesse Hill Jr. Drive SE regarding a person who had been shot following an incident that began near Austin Road SW and Campbellton Road SW.

Investigators said the victim reported being robbed by a suspect who allegedly took the victim’s firearm before shooting him with it.

The victim was able to provide officers with descriptions of both the suspect and the vehicle involved.

Police said the victim was alert, conscious, and breathing when officers arrived. He later traveled to a hospital by private vehicle for treatment.

Aggravated Assault Unit investigators issued a BOLO for the suspect vehicle and used license plate reader technology to track it down later that same day.

Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Jermaine Edwards.

Edwards was arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Aggravated Battery
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony

He was transported to the Fulton County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
